Our Impact
Need

Jade works across the Rother Valley South area with the majority of its work taking place in Dinnington, South Yorkshire. The area still faces significant deprivation dating back to the loss of mining industries.
Deprivation figures show that Dinnington Central is in the worst 4% of deprived communities nationally, education and skills attainment is in the lowest 1% nationally with only 8% of children gaining 5 GCSE’s. Crime Incidences were the highest in Rotherham in 2008/9 (worst 4% nationally). Crime has fallen since then but the area is still rated very vulnerable to crime and anti-social behaviour.

In addition to this young people are vulnerable to drug use and child sexual exploitation both of which are issues which we provide significant support around through the provision of our youth clinic, one to one counseling work, evening drop in sessions and after school clubs. Health issues, disability, income and unemployment are all high (within most deprived 6%). Dinnington Community Primary has 47% of pupils eligible for free school meals, whilst unemployment increased from 22% in 2008 to 26% in 2011.
Impact
In 2016 we commissioned an independent impact report. The report found that during the periods of 2013 - 2016 the organization had achieved a wealth of outcomes for young people and the wider community. Key achievements included:
- Achieved 10791 attendances to their activities
- Developed a core user base of over 900 beneficiaries
- 1940 young people reported improved attitudes to drug and alcohol use
- 926 reported improved confidence, self-esteem and aspirations
- 346 reported new skills through volunteering
- 76 gained a qualification
- 52 engaged in peer mentoring
- 68 young people accessed educational/employment opportunities through signposting and support.
Feedback from within the report:
"Their breadth of knowledge and understanding of how to engage with young people is beyond most youth workers – they have an energy and passion only really found in the voluntary sector"
"They work with young people that most other agencies don’t want to know/don’t know what/how to work with them and often they’ve given up on them saying they are useless. JADE works with them and stays with them through all their complex behaviors"
"It would make a massive difference if they weren’t there. We have some particularly vulnerable young people in incredibly difficult situations. JADE make a difference to them and their families, who are on the edge. JADE helps build that trust."
"They are able to motivate young people to come back to school, I can honestly say that for one young person they may not be alive today if it was not for the support of JADE – They can be a lifeline"
